Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation – A shooting on the Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation this morning has left one man dead, as RCMP still search the area for the shooter asking residents to stay indoors. According to various news reports and official RCMP reports, the man was fatally shot near the health centre, and someone was seen driving away on an ATV near the scene.
RezX recently talked to a woman through our facebook page, who asked not to be named. She is currently one of many people told to stay in doors in the community, until RCMP say its safe.
“This whole situation is horrible”.
“I believe there are 4 or 5 RCMP surrounding the area by what is called Lovers Lane (it’s by the lake behind the water pump house where the shooting took place. The victim was shot on his door step)”.
“I’m just scared right now and we live 5 mins away from where it’s taking place”.
APTN reported earlier that, “The alleged shooter is in his mid-50s and on the loose. According to resident Kim Sasakamoose, the shooting happened around 10 a.m. and the alleged shooter is her cousin, “Chucky” Sasakamoose. “They tried to bring him back to life,” said Kim Sasakamoose of the victim, who she identified as Wayne and being new to the community. The shooting happened near the health centre. Kim Sasakamoose said she heard the shooting was over a woman. “He took off on his quad,” said Kim Sasakamoose of her cousin. “We’re told to lock our doors.
