The six-part miniseries is based on Stephen E. Ambrose’s book: Undaunted Courage. The synopsis for the series is the telling of first contact with Indigenous tribes and the exploration west of the Mississippi River in the southern United States.
It follows the Corps of Discovery (a unit of the U.S. army), with Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clark, as they journeyed to find the most direct and practicable route to the Pacific Ocean for purposes of commerce, exam the natural resources of the recent Louisiana Purchase, and deliver President Thomas Jefferson’s message of U.S. sovereignty over the land occupied by Indigenous tribes along the Missouri River.
A casting call was also held last fall in Montana for actors and actresses for roles within the series, including a “youthful looking” native female for the part of Sacagawea. Additional casting calls have also been held in Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton.
The series will star Casey Affleck as Lewis and Matthias Schoenaerts as Clark. Notably, the series’ features a Hollywood cast of executive producers of: Tom Hanks, Edward Norton, and Brad Pitt.
The series, which has been in the works since at least 2007, is expected to air in 2016.
