For our final print edition of RezX Magazine, we feature activist, modern day decolonizer and former band councillor for Poundmaker, Colby Tootoosis on our cover. Other stories that fill out this edition include a reaction to the recently announced MMIWG (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls) Inquiry by Dr. Shauneen Pete, the Balcarres Community School Role Model Posters, and the History of RezX in Pictures (as told by RezX Founder Chris Ross and the photographers who took the photos).

In our cover story, Colby Tootoosis shares his experience as councillor for Poundmaker First Nation where he says, “The decision to accept the nomination for council was the decision of a lifetime. The reason why that is is because the experience has been priceless, it’s been profound, it’s been nutrients for my soul and my character. And it’s not something I pursued.”

The cover story also includes an essay he wrote titled, “Lessons from the Political Front Lines” where he criticizes the Indian Act (legislation that currently governs many First Nations across Canada).

“The current system that administers the Indian Act is designed to fail, create debt, and facilitates oppression and further assimilation through psychological manipulation and policy. It bewilders me that our peoples strive to convince each other that they are the exception and can be the ones to bring about success to a system specifically designed to fail us.”

You can read and watch “Colby Tootoosis “Sharing Knowledge” below in our final print edition and full video from RezX TV.
