Interview w Russell Peters – “Almost Famous” Tour Regina Stop (Pics and Audio)
This past Sunday, we sent RezX’s own Haris Khan to go and cover comedian Russell Peter’s Regina stop on his “Almost Famous” Tour. He even got back stage getting the chance to interview the comedian in person after the show.
Khan, who is an up and coming comedian, is mostly known for his charitable fundraising comedy shows that he hosts in Regina. For Khan, it was an amazing experience for him to interview his idol, so a huge thank you to Clayton Peters (brother/manager) for making it happen.
Check out the interview below (with audio clips at the end)
Haris Khan: Hi Russell, thanks for letting me interview you and your show was great!
Russell Peters: Thanks, Haris.
HK: I have a couple of questions to ask you. Your last tour was called “Notorious Tour” and this tour is called “Almost Famous”, what is the reason and significance behind the names?
RP: “Notorious” was named after [rapper] Notorious B.I.G, the tour started at the 15th anniversary of Biggie’s death and I was a huge Biggie fan and that was the reason why I called [my previous tour] “Notorious.” “Almost Famous” is because in some places I am really famous and in some places I am almost famous. Let’s celebrate that accomplishment.
HK: Any message for First Nation/Aboriginal fans?
RP: Thanks for letting us stay! Haris, are you Pakistani?
HK: Yes.
RP: Ah, Jesus Christ.
[Laughter]
HK: What advice would you give to someone who is starting stand-up comedy?
RP: Do it because it feels like the right thing to do. Do it because you don’t want to do anything else. There is something in you that does not want you to do anything else other than comedy.
HK: I saw on your Twitter that you mentioned some of your future television projects. Any comments about those projects?
RP: There are a ton of television projects that I am working on right now.
HK: I saw you on the movie Chef. Who approached you for that movie?
RP: John Favreau is a friend of mine and he asked me if I wanted to act in his movie and I said “yes”; I would like to be in his film. I don’t care what kind of film it is; I will be in any John Favreau movie.
HK: When you were starting your career as a stand-up comedian, who inspired you to follow your passion?
RP: I started doing it in 1989 and my brother took me to some amateur comedy nights to show me how comedians perform; then later I started performing and then I met [late comedian] George Carlin, he told me to get on the stage as much as possible. Now, I have been in this entertainment business for 25 years.
HK: How do you feel about being one of the most successful stand-up comedians in the world?
RP: I don’t know; I think it’s pretty cool. [Laughs] I don’t have any downside to it.
HK: Thank you very much for your time.
RP: Thanks, Haris Khan.
