Your community needs you, not just the smart mouthing, wise cracking always cheeky with a joke or two person, but that other you; the one that sits back and thinks about what the community needs, who sees what can be done and does it. There are may who criticize but you remember – criticizing without offering another solution is simply whining.

Buying new material is a must for you, your artistic side is going to shine out brightly as you travel this summer. Go to Winnipeg and dance to the four meals! The Happy Meal for your kids, the Double-double for yourself, the Teen Burger Meal for your cousins, and the KFC Chicken Special for your Elders. They will all watch you as you change your dance from a fast food dance to a Healthier dance and begin to lock step with the drum you hear.
Ohpahowi-pîsim – The Flying Up Moon – Mouse – August
Go dance up north for a bit, shake those bells and learn a new step from the dancers up there, you’ll find they are more than willing to help you learn the new ways. One day you’ll be dancing it up hard and you’ll break out in a fancy new step and you’ll win; because you took the time to listen to your northern cousins, and practice the new step!
Nôcihitowi-pîsim – The Mating Moon – Salmon – September
Volunteering is a fantastic way to build up your resume When potential employers see that you have interests and causes and want help out, it gives them a better understanding of what kind of worker you are. Remember, you don’t need a per diem for everything, a good work ethic pays for itself.
Pinaskâwi-pîsim – The Migrating Moon – Turtle – October
I’m going to be hard on you, put down the per diem cheque and step away from the KFC. You were put in your position not only to be an example of what hard work can do for a person but also to show how a hard working person should act. With that in mind I want you to consider your community, not their last names, but their needs… and help them.
Iyikopiwi-pîsim – The Frost Moon – Wolf – November
And you with the war pony, those flies in the back are on their 5th generation already! Take some time an give it a good cleaning, throw out those garbage bags of quick meals and coffee cups. Vacuum the seats and the carpets and the ashtray before you wash the outside this time. People don’t want to ride with you anymore, and don’t say thats how you like it!
Pawâcakinasîsi-pîsim – The Frost Exploding Trees Moon – Spider – December
A lot of people have been telling you lately that you’re not Indian enough, that you’re too white, a colonized Indian, an Apple, and a Fort Indian. Quit carrying that around, you’re perfect just the way you are because thats how the Creator created you! He didn’t make you too much of this, or not enough of that, he made you just how you’re suppose to be. Take comfort in that.
