New show The Four tackles Indigenous Issues from Indigenous Women’s Perspective
Four Aboriginal women are reclaiming their identity by creating a talk show called “The Four”.
The show which airs every Tuesday at 7pm on the community channel, Access 7, involves four women; Dr. Shauneen Pete, Bevann Fox, Shannon Fayant and Robyn Morin, who are all knowledgeable, courageous and educated women.
At the premiere of the show which showcased on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the University of Regina, the room was filled with a lot of people with excitement and eagerness to watch the first episode. Even the women on the talk show were excited to showcase their first episode.
“The big problem we all had was [thinking] what if people don’t like it, that kind of feeling. This was our first time seeing it all,” said Pete.
The first episode was about “The Four” sharing their stories of what they are grateful for and what their fears are. They had included different members within the Aboriginal community to share their perspectives on those two topics.
The show was formed over discussions at a wiener roast in a backyard through heavy brainstorming of how First Nations women are reclaiming their power by using their powerful voices.
Robyn Morin, who is the youngest member of “The Four” described the show as “showcasing Indigenous women in a positive respect and showing that we’re real people, we’re not sexualized, erotic objects that people may place us to be.”
The first season of “The Four” will run for 12-weeks and can be seen every Tuesday at 7pm on Access 7 with reruns on the following Sundays at 5pm.
