In what was probably the hardest issue to put together, the editorial and production team at RezX Magazine finally got it done. So here it is, our Winter 2014 Edition which features global baller and ‘real model’ Michael Linklater on the cover, who shares his empowering story of success.
What was so cool about this cover story, is that it’s been over 15-years since we last featured Michael Linklater on the cover (when we were then known as Gen-X Magazine). Back in 1999, Linklater was only 17-years old and we labelled him “One Amazing Athlete to Watch for in 2000”. But what we should have said was “One Amazing Athlete to watch for in years to come” which has seen him win a CIS (Canadian InterUniversity Sport) Championship for the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and just recently competing on the world stage during the FIBA 3X3 Tournaments in 2014. It’s a very cool back story which we talk about in this issue.

The theme of this edition is “Indigenous Accomplishments of 2014” which we found was dominated by Indigenous Women, like Leanne Bellegarde for her work with Potash Corp, Erica Violet Lee for forcing the name change of the Bedford Road Redmen and Tanya Tagaq, international music artist who won the 2014 Polaris Music Prize, to name a few.
Also we catch up with Devon Fiddler, who is getting ready to launch her She Native Goods Inc. company, that specializes in handbags and clothing meant to empower Indigenous women. We also talk to Leonard Sumner who won best new artist at the 2014 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards and review his album, “Rez Poetry” and also continue our “Indigenous Shopping” section with a fashion spread featuring Tatanka Boutique.
