Standing Buffalo Champs of “Play for Your Own Rez” Tournament

Last weekend, (Jan 31 to Feb 1, 2015) Mistawasis First Nation hosted the Play for Your Own Rez Basketball Tournament which was a fundraiser for the community’s Youth Center.

It was an entertaining tournament that brought together different communities from across Saskatchewan like; Onion Lake, Loon Lake, Poundmaker, Starblanket, Red Pheasant, Mosquito, Standing Buffalo, Beardy’s and Okemasis, Moosamin and Mistawasis.

Tournament organizers were Robin Daniels and Brad Duquette and this year’s Champion was Standing Buffalo who beat Mistawasis with a final score of 77-66. Mike Redman of Standing Buffalo was named MVP of the tournament.

Here is the prize breakdown;
1st Place 1400.00 Standing Buffalo
2nd Place 1000.00 Mistiwasis
3rd Place 700.00 Starblanket
4th Place 400.00 Thunderchild
